Notes from Green Thumb Farm August 1, 2014

August has arrived and our summer crops are in full swing. We started picking our own organic tomatoes last week so expect those over the next couple months! We will bring tomatoes in every week alternating between mini cocktail style tomatoes and large varieties. We grow over 50 varieties of tomatoes—the small minis of red, gold, yellow, white and black round cherries; red and yellow grape; red and yellow pear—we will bring a variety of each in as they become available.

Large tomatoes include red, yellow, orange, red, black and striped as well as Italian Romas of red, yellow and striped varieties. Enjoy them while they last—the season is short and then it’s back to those tasteless winter, imported varieties.

The past month, July, has been very dry so some things are not growing as well s expected. We are getting rain today (August 2nd) so things will get better. Peppers have begun so expect red, yellow and orange ones later in the month as the green ripen. Eggplants have started—cucumbers, plenty of beans and squashes to continue. Our cantaloupes look good also—hopefully by the end of the month to harvest. Lots are coming as the season of beauty and diversity is upon us!

Organically yours,

Farmer Bill
