September is here and our season is almost half over. Our tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and melons have done well with the hot dry weather but the beet, carrots and greens have not. Our plantings of fall greens - orientals, broccoli raab and mustards - have also suffered due to the hot and dry weather. Lettuces, depending on weather, should be arriving soon.
Winter squashes we will have several weeks this month, mostly acorn and butternut squash. Our sweet potatoes we will start to harvest in the middle of this month to bring in to the shares later this month or early October. We should have sweet potatoes until the end of the year. Cold crops - kales, broccoli, cauliflowers and cabbages will be later than usual due to the lack of rain in August.
So expect summer and winter squashes, peppers, tomatoes, beans and eggplants for the rest of this month. Leeks, some greens and possibly radishes later in the month or early October. The ever changing growing season moves to Fall.
Organically yours,
Farmer Bill
