Pumpkin Tour at Green Thumb Farm

Saturday, October 15, time and other details TBA

Enjoy a hayride at the CSA's vegetable farm, visit their farmstand, indulge in the sights, sounds, and tastes of autumn, and take home a free pumpkin!

*In the past, we've organized a school bus to take some participants, while others drove themselves.  This fall, the usual bus is not an option, but we'd like to arrange to transport as many people as we can.  If you want to attend, please email hellgateevents@gmail.com and let us know a) how many people you'd be bringing and b) whether you could drive your own car and, if so, how many extra people you could transport.  More news on arrangements as it develops.  Thanks for your help!*

Thursday, November 3, 6:30 pm

The New York Society Library, 53 East 79th Street (at Madison)

$10 per person

Advance registration required; see http://nyslgrowingroots.eventbrite.com

Growing Roots is about a new revolution in food involving people living sustainable lives that revolve around healthy, natural food.  The book introduces farmers and beekeepers, fishermen and chefs, food activists and cheesemongers, and many more across the nation.  Also included are filmmakers, writers, and artists who are changing the way society eats and looks at food production.  Library Journal calls it “inspirational and entertaining reading.”  In this event, author Katherine Leiner will discuss meeting and profiling the diversity of participants, and photographer Andrew Lipton will display his stunning images of farms, food, and people.  In addition, Bees Without Borders founder Andrew Cote will add his perspective on beekeeping and teaching others to improve their lives with bees.
